Homemade Shake and Vac and Fabreeze
Shake and Vac
I love the smell of carpet freshener. Especially my current one – it is Crisp Green Apple scented… I made it five minutes ago 😀
Here’s how I did it:
500g container of Baking Soda
About 30 drops of essential oil (this is personal preference – I only used about 10, just enough to give a very subtle scent)
I simply put the essential oil into the baking soda, put the lid back on and gave it a darn good shake!
The baking soda I have does not have a shaker dispenser – so I drilled some holes in the top of the container.
Then I went nuts in my dining room (ensuring I held the lid of the container on to avoid disasters)
For better results make your mix up 24 hours beforehand – let the oil really infuse into the baking soda.
If you are worried about bugs (including fleas and mites) you can add a couple of tablespoons of Borax into this mix. Sprinkle it on your carpets and leave overnight before thoroughly vacuuming up!
Oh! And it works on upholstery too! 🙂
Fabreeze
In a spray bottle put:
- 2 cups Warm Water
- 1 tablespoon White Vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Baking Soda
- Essential oil to suit
Shake well
That easy!
I’d recommend trying it out on fabrics first – test for colourfastness etc. But so far I’ve used it on everything from microfibre to chintz without a problem.
